How to Calculate the Mumbai University SGPA?

Mumbai University calculates the Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) using a credit-weighted average of grade points obtained in a semester. The calculation is based on credits and grade points, not raw marks.

Step 1: Convert Marks into Grade Points

First, your percentage of marks in each subject is converted into a letter grade and grade point using the Mumbai University grading table.

List all the subjects you registered for in the semester, along with their credits (C) and grade points (G).

Step 3: Multiply Credits with Grade Points

For each subject, multiply the credits by the grade points:

• Add all (Credits × Grade Points)
• Add all credits

Step 5: Apply Mumbai University SGPA Formula

The final value obtained is your SGPA.

Step 1: Multiply Credits with Grade Points

(4×9) + (3×8) + (2×10) + (3×7) + (4×10)

= 36 + 24 + 20 + 21 + 40

Step 2: Add Total Credits

Important Mumbai University Rules to Remember

• Zero grade points are counted:
  Subjects in which a student scores an F grade (0 grade points) are included in the SGPA calculation. Failed subjects are not excluded.
• SGPA is credit-weighted:
  SGPA is not a simple average of grades. Subjects with higher credits have more impact on your SGPA.
• Marks decide grades, not SGPA directly:
  Your percentage of marks is first converted into a letter grade and grade point, and only then used for SGPA computation.
• Passing starts at 40%:
  A minimum of 40.00% (Grade P – 4 points) is required to pass a subject. Any score below 40% results in an F grade (means Fail).
• Outstanding performance begins at 80%:
  Only marks 80.00 and above are awarded the highest grade (O) with 10 grade points.
• All registered subjects matter:
  Every subject you are registered for in the semester, theory, practical, or lab, is included in SGPA as long as it carries credits.

Improvement affects future SGPA/CGPA:
Until a failed subject is cleared with a valid grade, its zero grade point continues to affect SGPA and CGPA.
