The Mumbai University CGPA Calculator is a tool for the students of the University of Mumbai (MU) to calculate their Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in a precise manner without having to do the work by hand.
CGPA represents a student's overall academic performance across multiple semesters, calculated using the credits earned and the grade points obtained in all registered subjects, as per Mumbai University's official grading system.
It's free for you!
CGPA calculation at Mumbai University is different from SGPA because it considers multiple semesters together, not just one semester.
Follow these steps to calculate your CGPA accurately:
Each letter grade is assigned a numerical value on a 10-point scale as prescribed by Mumbai University.
Represents the student's academic performance in a subject. Grades include O, A, B, C, D, E, P, and F.
The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) for Mumbai University is calculated using the following formula:
CGPA = Σ(Credits × Grade Points) ÷ Σ(Credits)
Where:
Below is the official grade scale used by Mumbai University to convert marks into grade points:
| Marks Range | Grade | Grade Points | Performance |
|---|---|---|---|
| 80.00 and above | O | 10 | Outstanding |
| 75.00 – 79.99 | A | 9 | Excellent |
| 70.00 – 74.99 | B | 8 | Very Good |
| 60.00 – 69.99 | C | 7 | Good |
| 50.00 – 59.99 | D | 6 | Fair |
| 45.00 – 49.99 | E | 5 | Average |
| 40.00 – 44.99 | P | 4 | Pass |
| Less than 40.00 | F | 0 | Fail |
Mumbai University calculates CGPA using a credit-weighted average of grade points across all semesters. The calculation considers credits and grade points, not raw marks.
Marks obtained in each subject are first converted into letter grades and grade points using the Mumbai University grading table.
List all the subjects completed across semesters along with their credits (C) and grade points (G).
For each subject, multiply the credits by the grade points:
C₁ × G₁, C₂ × G₂, …
CGPA = Σ(Credits × Grade Points) ÷ Σ(Credits)
The final value obtained is your CGPA.
Assume a student has completed multiple semesters with the following cumulative data:
| Semester | SGPA | Credits |
|---|---|---|
| Semester 1 | 7.5 | 18 |
| Semester 2 | 8.0 | 20 |
| Semester 3 | 7.0 | 16 |
CGPA = (7.5 × 18) + (8.0 × 20) + (7.0 × 16) ÷ (18 + 20 + 16)
= (135 + 160 + 112) ÷ 54
= 407 ÷ 54
= 7.54
Final CGPA = 7.54
Mumbai University converts CGPA into a percentage using the following formula:
Percentage = (7.1 × CGPA) + 11
From the calculation:
(7.1 × 7.54) + 11 = 53.534 + 11 = 64.534%
After rounding off:
Final Percentage = 65%
The calculated percentage is rounded off to the nearest whole number, as followed by Mumbai University.
CGPA is a credit-weighted average of the grades converted to points:
CGPA = Σ(Credits × Grade Points) ÷ Σ(Credits)
Any subject in which the student has been registered, even a subject with zero grade points, is taken into consideration for the calculation.
The University of Mumbai utilises a 10-point grading scheme with letter grades from O to F, where O is the best-suited grade point (10), and F indicates failure (0).
To calculate CGPA at Mumbai University, the academic performance of all semesters is combined using a credit-weighted formula.
Steps to calculate CGPA:
Formula Used:
CGPA = Σ(Credits × Grade Points) ÷ Σ(Credits)
CGPA represents the cumulative academic performance of a student across multiple semesters. Since the calculation is credit-weighted, subjects with higher credits contribute more to the final CGPA. All registered subjects, including those with zero grade points (F grade), are included in the calculation until they are cleared.
A student fails if they receive an F grade, which corresponds to 0 grade points and marks below 40%.
| CGPA Range | Academic Performance |
|---|---|
| 7.0 and above | Good academic standing |
| 8.0 and above | Very good and competitive |
| 9.0 and above | Excellent and top-tier |
Higher CGPA improves opportunities for placements, internships, higher studies, and scholarships.
