Can a non‑IT graduate really get into a tech MNC?
Yes, it absolutely possible
My name is Ushakiranmai, an ECE graduate who transitioned from embedded systems to secure a 6 LPA SAP role at ADP.
When I completed my engineering degree, I never imagined I would one day work in an MNC like ADP. I did not come from a Computer Science background. I had never written a single line of real code during my college. But I made it—and I want to share exactly how it happened, thanks to the structured learning I received through NxtWave.
My First Job and a Difficult Start
I graduated in 2024 from Srinivasa Ramanujan Institute of Technology (SRIT), Anantapur with a degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering.
My first job was at a small startup specialising in embedded systems in Chennai. I was earning ₹8,000 per month. It was difficult to adjust to the new environment, and over time, this began to affect my health. Eventually, I decided to leave the job and return home.
At that point, I felt lost. I had no idea what direction to take or how to make a comeback.
The Turning Point: A Demo That Changed Everything
About ten days later, my father suggested I explore NxtWave. I booked a demo session, and that decision turned out to be a life-changer.
I enrolled in NxtWave’s Full Stack Development course in September 2024, and this time, I was determined to give it everything. I made a personal commitment to follow the daily schedule without fail. I told myself, "Let this be my full-time responsibility."
Learning the Basics and Pushing Through the Tough Parts
When I began the course, things started off well. HTML, CSS, and SQL felt manageable. I could follow along and felt encouraged by my progress.
But once I reached Node.js and React, the real challenge began.
Node.js was tough to grasp. React took me even longer to complete. Still, I did not stop.
I watched YouTube tutorials and searched outside the course materials to gain a deeper understanding of certain concepts.
Thanks to NxtWave’s structured daily learning, I kept progressing. I stuck to the routine and focused on completing each module—no matter how long it took. Eventually, even React made sense.
The Support System That Made a Difference
One of the biggest advantages I had during this phase was the support structure at NxtWave.
The Code Playground (coding practice platform) helped a lot. Many students think these practice sessions take too much time, but they are what make us interview-ready.
Also, my Success Coach at NxtWave played a key role. She used to check in on my consistency, share my progress in the group leaderboard, and send motivating messages when I stayed on track. When I took breaks, she reminded me to start again. That support pushed me forward during challenging moments.
Placement and the Interview That Changed Everything
I applied for four opportunities through NxtWave’s placement portal. My first technical interview was with ADP, and I cleared it.
Yes, I was nervous, I was unsure. But the structured preparation helped me feel ready. I answered confidently, and I believe the interviewer noticed that.
Now, I am working at ADP as an Associate Functional Consultant in the SAP domain with a ₹6 LPA package. Most freshers I know are offered around ₹4 LPA, so this felt like a big achievement.
From a ₹8,000 Job to an MNC Opportunity
The difference is not just the salary.
At my previous job, I had no real training, no mentor, and no growth path. Now, because of NxtWave’s career-aligned training, I am receiving structured mentorship, working in a professional environment at ADP, and building a long-term path in tech.
Even better—my mother stays with me in Hyderabad now, and my family feels proud.
Key Lessons I Learned Along the Way
1. Stay consistent.
I followed NxtWave’s daily schedule without skipping. That helped me reach the placement phase on time.
2. Do not skip coding practice.
The practice platforms at NxtWave were time-consuming, but they helped me build the confidence to face interviews.
3. Keep going even when it feels slow.
React took me time, but I completed it. That felt like a win in itself.
4. Use your support system.
Having a mentor or success coach from NxtWave really helps you stay on track, especially during difficult times.
My Message to Students from Non-IT Backgrounds
Please do not give up. Do not stop midway.
You may see others getting jobs faster, but that does not mean you are failing. Everyone’s pace is different. Your job is to learn and improve continually.
“Learning and upskilling is our responsibility. No one else can do it for us.”
Final Thoughts: You Do Not Need a CS Degree to Work in Tech
I did not come from a Computer Science background. I did not have strong technical experience in college. I had doubts, like everyone else.
But with the help of NxtWave’s career-focused program, I stayed consistent, built confidence, and took the right steps at the right time.
That is what helped me move from uncertainty to success.
If you are also from a non-IT background and wondering if a tech career is possible—it absolutely is.
