About JNTUK SGPA Calculator

The JNTUK SGPA Calculator is used for Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada (JNTUK) students who wish to calculate their Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) with minimal effort. Every student’s academic performance in a semester is evaluated using SGPA, which reflects a student's academic performance in a particular semester based on credits and grade points assigned to each subject.

Formula Used to Calculate JNTUK SGPA

Grade Point: As per JNTUK, this is a numerical value assigned to each letter grade on a 10-point scale.

Letter Grade: This serves as an indicator of student performance in a particular course. Grades are represented by the letters S, A, B, C, D, and F.

The formula to calculate SGPA is:

Where:

  • C i = Credits for the i-th subject
  • GP i = Grade Point for the i-th subject

JNTUK Grade Point Scale

Below is the grade scale based on percentage to help you determine the grade point of your courses.

Marks Range Grade Grade Points
90 and above S (Superior) 10
80 – 89 A (Excellent) 9
70 – 79 B (Very Good) 8
60 – 69 C (Good) 7
50 – 59 D (Average) 6
40 – 49 E (Pass) 5
Below 40 F (Fail) 0
Absent Ab (Absent) 0

Important Notes about Grade Points

  1. A student who receives a Grade ‘F’ or Grade ‘Ab’ in a subject will be considered to have failed and will need to reappear for that subject during the next supplementary examination.

  2. For non-credit audit courses, grades will be indicated as "Satisfactory" or "Unsatisfactory" instead of using letter grades. These non-credit courses will not be included in the computation of SGPA, CGPA, or percentage.

  3. SGPA shall be rounded to 2 decimal points and reported in the transcripts.

  4. The subjects in which the student is awarded zero grade points will also be included in computing the SGPA.

How to Calculate the JNTUK SGPA?

Here is the step-by-step process to calculate the JNTUK SGPA:

Step 1: Enter the subjects, the grade points and credits.

Subject Credits Grade Point
Mathematics 4 9
Physics 3 8
Chemistry Lab 2 10
English 3 7
Programming 4 10
Workshop Lab 2 8

Step 2: Multiply the credits of each subject by its grade point.

Subject Credit × GP
Mathematics 4 × 9 = 36
Physics 3 × 8 = 24
Chemistry Lab 2 × 10 = 20
English 3 × 7 = 21
Programming 4 × 10 = 40
Workshop Lab 2 × 8 = 16

Step 3: Sum all the Grade point values

Total GPA = 36 + 24 + 20 + 21 + 40 + 16 = 157

Step 4: Add all credits

 Total Credits = 4 + 3 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 2 = 18

Step 5: Calculate SGPA

Total SGPA = 157 / 18
           = 8.72 SGPA

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I exclude failed subjects in CGPA calculation?

No, all subjects, including failed subjects, will remain included in the CGPA until they are passed with a valid grade in successive attempts.

2. How many semesters are needed to calculate CGPA?

After two semesters are completed, the CGPA can be calculated. However, CGPA becomes more meaningful as more semesters' SGPA are added with their respective credits.

3. Is CGPA used for job applications or higher studies?

Yes, CGPA is of utmost importance in addition to employment, internships, and further studies. Most universities and companies require CGPA information in applications and academic transcripts, making it mandatory.

4. What if two semesters have the same SGPA?

Both semesters contribute to the CGPA based on their credit weight. Regardless of the same SGPA, the differing credits impact the value of the CGPA.
